Two different workshops are available in your region. You may attend one 3-hour workshop (half day) or both 3-hour workshops (full day) depending on your schedule and preference. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Workshop A: Using What Works The “Using What Works†workshop will help participants understand the importance of evidence-based programs as a starting place for their own programs. Participants will learn how to choose an evidence-based program that has the potential to be successful in their communities and how to adapt programs to ensure fidelity and fit. This workshop, adapted from the NCI’s “Using What Works†program, teaches participants how to plan a health program using evidence-based programs. Participants in “Using What Works†will have the opportunity to learn about:
Defining evidence-informed and evidence-based programs
Planning with a focus on needs assessment
Making it fit - the adaptation process
Taking next steps
Workshop B: Fundamentals of Evaluation The Fundamentals of Evaluation workshop is an interactive workshop in which participants learn the core concepts of evaluation. The information provided will help participants understand the importance of evaluating a program, what to expect from their evaluation efforts and what is involved in program evaluation from planning to reporting results. Through the use of visual aids, group discussion, case studies and practical activities the workshop prepares participants to develop their own evaluation plans. Participants in the Fundamentals of Evaluations workshop will have the opportunity to learn about:
Evaluation: process vs. outcome
Logic model development
Use of evaluation in programs
Development of an evaluation plan
Organizational Evaluations: externally and internally (measuring program successes vs. role of evaluation in attracting funders and selecting partners)
