Two different workshops are available in your region. You may attend one 3-hour workshop (half day) or both 3-hour workshops (full day) depending on your schedule and preference. Breakfast and Lunch will be provided.
Workshop A (9:00-12:00): Tips for Writing Successful Proposals
The Tips for Writing Successful Proposals workshop goes beyond basic grant writing and provides the participants with an interactive session on how to be responsive to the proposal. The information provided will help the participant understand the grant review scoring process, practice writing SMART objectives, and developing evaluation methods for process objectives. The workshop will consist of visual aids, group discussion, and individual practice exercises. Participants in the Tips for Writing Successful Proposals workshop will have the opportunity to learn about:
Grant review scoring process
A letter of commitment vs. a letter of support
Methods of evaluation and measurable outcomes
Writing SMART objectives
Linking your program vision, work plan and budget for maximum impact
Understanding why proposals get rejected
Workshop B (1:00- 4:00): Mobilizing Communities around Health Initiatives The Mobilizing Communities around Health Initiatives workshop will help participants expand their understanding of community-based organizing and mobilizing strategies aimed at building capacity for issues and actions. Participants will learn how to build intentional public relationships for the specific purpose of mobilizing around issues of public health and welfare. In addition, participants will get a deeper understanding of leadership and will learn how to sustain successful mobilization efforts. The Mobilizing Communities around Health Initiatives Workshop will give participants a road map that will take them from purpose to power. Topics include:
What is power?
The difference between organizing and mobilizing
Understanding your community – listening campaigns
Sustaining your mobilization efforts
Understanding and identifying leadership
From “actions” to victory – identifying success
